Northern Melbourne · Merri-bek City Council

Web design Coburg

Coburg is an inner-northern suburb in the City of Merri-bek (called Moreland until September 2022), with a small eastern part in Darebin. Its main commercial strip is Sydney Road, lined with independent shops, cafés, bakeries and restaurants, and the suburb also has Coburg Market, the Walkers Arcade and Foleys Mall shopping areas, and the redeveloped Pentridge site, the former HM Prison, now a mix of homes, retail and hospitality.

Coburg businesses

Businesses we build for in Coburg

What the local business mix means for your website.

Coburg has long-established Italian, Greek, Lebanese and Arabic-speaking communities, and the 2021 Census lists Italian, Greek and Arabic as the most common languages other than English. Family-run food businesses, grocers, bakeries, barbers and service businesses along Sydney Road often serve regulars in more than one language, alongside newer cafés, studios and creative businesses.

Most of these businesses compete with several similar shopfronts within walking distance. A website that shows the real shopfront, the menu or price list, opening hours and how to get there does more than a generic template. Home-based and mobile businesses, such as trades, tutors, therapists and makers, also work from Coburg and nearby streets, and need clear service areas and a simple way to enquire.

The page plan

What Coburg websites need to get right

We build these into the page plan when they apply to your business.

  • Menus, hours and a map that work on a phone for people walking Sydney Road
  • A second language on key pages where many of your customers read it first
  • A clear service-area section for trades and mobile businesses covering Merri-bek and the north
  • A business name, address and phone that match your Google Business Profile exactly

Getting around Coburg, and how we work with you

Where it is

About 8 km north of the CBD, in Merri-bek City Council, part of Northern Melbourne.

How customers reach you

Coburg is served by Moreland and Coburg stations on the Upfield line, by trams along Sydney Road (route 19) and Bell Street area buses, and by the Upfield bike path. Customers arrive on foot, by tram and by bike as well as by car, so say which stop or street is closest and where to park.

How we work together

Briefing, feedback, approvals and handover happen online by video call, phone, email and shared documents. A call can be arranged whenever it helps.

Should my Sydney Road shop website list Coburg or Merri-bek?

Use Coburg as the main place name, because that is what customers search. Mention Merri-bek where it is natural, for example in a service-area line, since it is the council name (Moreland before September 2022) and older listings may still use the old one.

Can a Coburg café or bakery show a menu in two languages?

Yes, as a separately scoped addition. The translation should come from you or be professionally checked, and each language should be easy to switch to from the first screen.

I run a home-based creative business near Pentridge. Do I need a full website?

Usually a small website is enough: what you make or offer, a few real examples, prices or a starting price, your service or pickup details and one obvious way to enquire. Packages and prices are on the pricing page.

How much does a website cost for a Coburg business?

The same as anywhere in Melbourne: A$169, A$299 or A$449, paid once, for up to 3, 5 or 8 pages. Domain, hosting and paid third-party tools are separate. Brand Launch, with a logo, website and first-year domain and hosting, starts at A$599.

Do you have an office in Coburg?

No. SIX9 Design is one Melbourne studio. Projects for Coburg businesses run online, by video call, phone, email and shared documents, so nobody has to take time off site to travel.
