Website redesign · Melbourne studio

Website redesign for Melbourne small businesses.

Keep what already works — your domain, your email, the pages people find and the enquiries they send — and replace what doesn’t. We plan the move before anything goes live, and confirm the total in writing first.

No payment is taken with your brief. The page plan, redirects and total are agreed in writing first.

Is it time?

Signs you need a redesign — and signs you don’t

A redesign fixes how a site looks and works. It does not fix a lack of visitors on its own. Be sure you are solving the right problem.

A redesign will probably help if…

  • The site is hard to use on a phone, or slow to load.
  • Visitors arrive but few of them call, book or enquire.
  • Your services, prices or brand have changed and the site no longer matches.
  • Nobody can update it any more — the developer has moved on or the platform is outdated.
  • Your platform subscription keeps rising for features you do not use.

A redesign may not be the answer if…

  • The real problem is that few people find the site at all — that is usually content and search work.
  • Only one or two pages are out of date — updating them is quicker and cheaper.
  • The site works, converts and is easy to edit — keep it and improve the content.
Not sure which? Our redesign vs rebuild guide walks through the decision step by step.

What we keep

Everything that already works comes with you

Most of the risk in a redesign sits in the details below. We list each one, and any redirect or migration work it needs with its price, in the written scope, so nothing is left to chance on launch day.

  1. Your domain and email
Only the records that point to the website change. Email (MX) records are left alone and every DNS change is listed before launch.
  2. Pages people find
Pages with traffic, links or enquiries keep their address where possible. Any address that changes is redirected (301) to its closest new page.
  3. Content that still works
Proven wording, testimonials used with permission, photos and useful answers are carried over rather than rewritten for the sake of it.
  4. Where enquiries go
Forms are rebuilt and tested so messages still reach the right inbox. We check them again after launch.
  5. Analytics and Search Console
Your measurement stays connected so you can compare before and after. Give us access and we check the pages Google already knows about.
  6. Titles and descriptions that rank
Page titles and descriptions that already bring visitors are kept or improved carefully, not replaced wholesale.

Melbourne specifics

What a Melbourne redesign has to get right

These are the local details that decide whether a redesigned site keeps bringing Melbourne enquiries. They sit outside the design and are easy to lose in a move.

  1. The .com.au stays in your name
A .com.au is registered to the business through its ABN or ACN, and the registrant does not change in a redesign. Only the records that point at the website move; see the domain and hosting guide if you are not sure who holds yours.
  2. Google Business Profile matches the new site
The website link, service areas and categories on your profile should match the pages you launch. Run the Google Business Profile checklist on launch day, not weeks later.
  3. Suburb and service-area pages
Melbourne customers search a service plus a suburb. If the old site has pages that bring enquiries from Werribee, Dandenong or Preston, they are kept or redirected, not dropped; see how we handle suburb pages.
  4. Prices shown as totals including GST
Australian Consumer Law expects a price shown to consumers to be the total they pay, GST included. If the old site shows ex-GST figures or hides prices, the redesign is the moment to fix it.
  5. Tap-to-call and hours that work on a phone
Most Melbourne enquiries to a trade, clinic or restaurant start on a phone. Numbers are tap-to-call, opening hours are current, and the enquiry form is tested from a mobile before launch.
  6. Reviews carried over
Google reviews live on your Business Profile, not the website, so they survive the move. Testimonials quoted on the old site are reused only with the client's permission.
Looking for your industry? Melbourne redesigns run on the same pages as new builds: restaurants and cafés, tradies (with the tradie checklist), NDIS providers (with the NDIS checklist), real estate and dental clinics.

Process

How a redesign runs

Most standard websites are ready within 5–7 business days after we receive your content, images, access and project details. Your turnaround starts once we’ve got everything needed to get cracking.

  1. Review the current site
We list the pages, forms, integrations and anything tracked in analytics, and note what is working.
  2. Agree the page plan and redirects
Which pages stay, merge or go, and where each changed address will point. You approve it before the build.
  3. Design and build
The new site is built around your content and tested on phones, tablets and desktops before it replaces the old one.
  4. Review rounds
You send consolidated feedback — one, two or three rounds depending on the package.
  5. Launch
DNS is switched, redirects are tested, forms are checked and your sitemap is ready to submit to Google Search Console.
  6. Check after launch
Forms are checked again once the new site is live, as part of launch assistance, and the redirects in your scope are tested too, so problems are caught early.

Launch day

The launch-day checklist

Use it for any redesign, whoever builds it.

  • Every old address either still works or redirects (301) to its closest new page
  • No redirect chains or loops, and no important page returns a 404
  • Each page has one title, one description and a canonical pointing to itself
  • The site is not accidentally blocked from search engines
  • Contact forms deliver to the right inbox, including the confirmation email
  • Phone numbers and email links work on mobile
  • Analytics records visits and enquiries on the new site
  • The XML sitemap lists the new pages and is submitted in Search Console
  • Email still sends and receives after the DNS change
  • Images have descriptive alt text and the site loads quickly on a phone
Moving off a site builder? Builders export your text and images, not the design, so list every page address before you cancel and keep the old site running until the redirects are tested.

How much does a website redesign cost in Melbourne?

A SIX9 redesign uses the same fixed prices as a new website: A$169, A$299 or A$449 once for up to 3, 5 or 8 pages, counted on the new site. Redirect mapping and 301 set-up, moving a large blog or product catalogue, and complex integrations are listed and priced in your written scope, separately from the package. Larger Melbourne agencies usually quote redesigns individually after a discovery stage.

What do Melbourne agencies charge for a website redesign?

An independent Australian cost guide, updated October 2026, puts a Melbourne redesign that rebuilds ageing custom code at A$15,000–A$60,000, a fresh custom build at A$10,000–A$30,000, and scoped design-and-build work at A$100–A$250 an hour (checked 10 October 2026). Those bands assume a large site with integrations. A small business site of up to 8 pages is a different job: SIX9 Design redesigns it for A$169, A$299 or A$449 once, with redirects and any content migration priced in writing.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings through a redesign. What protects them best is keeping useful pages, redirecting every old address that changes to its closest new page, keeping titles and content that already work, and checking everything on launch day. Some movement in the first weeks is normal.

Will my email stop working?

It should not. Email runs on separate DNS records (MX records) from the website. We list every DNS change before launch and leave the email records alone, so your inbox keeps working while the website moves.

Can I keep my current platform?

Tell us which platform you use and whether staying on it is a requirement. We design and build a new site; if your project needs to stay on an existing platform, we confirm whether that fits before we quote.

Do I have to rewrite all my content?

No. We can reuse the words and images that still work, and you supply anything new. Copywriting and new photography are not included in website packages.

How long does a redesign take?

Most standard websites are ready within 5–7 business days after we receive your content, images, access and project details. Your turnaround starts once we’ve got everything needed to get cracking. The page plan and redirect list are agreed before the build starts.

Who owns the new website?

Once the project is fully paid, the finished website is yours, subject to any third-party platform or licence restrictions.

The agency that built my site has closed or stopped replying. Can you still redesign it?

Yes, as long as the business still controls the domain. Start with the registrar account for the .com.au (the renewal emails show which one); the registrant can recover a lost login with the ABN details on the domain record. Text and images can be taken from the live site, and the new site is built and tested on its own address, so nothing depends on the old developer until DNS is switched.

Can you redesign a Wix or Squarespace site and keep my .com.au domain?

Yes. The domain stays with your registrar and is simply pointed at the new site at launch. Builders export your text and images, not the design, so we rebuild the pages, agree the redirect list for any address that changes, and keep the old site running until every redirect has been tested. Cancel the builder subscription after that, not before.
