Website redesign · Melbourne studio serving Canada

Website redesign for Canadian small businesses

Keep what already works (your domain, your email, the pages people find and the inquiries they send) and rebuild the rest as a custom site. We plan the move before anything goes live and confirm the total in writing first.

No payment is taken with your brief. SIX9 Design is based in Melbourne, Australia and works with Canadian clients remotely.

Is it time?

Signs you need a redesign, and signs you don't

A redesign changes how a site looks and works. On its own it does not bring more visitors. Make sure you are fixing the right problem before you spend anything.

A redesign will probably help if…

  • The site is awkward on a phone or slow to load.
  • People visit but few call, book or send an inquiry.
  • Your services, prices or brand have moved on and the site hasn't.
  • Nobody can update it any more: the developer has gone or the builder is outdated.
  • You keep paying a rising platform subscription for features you never use.

A redesign may not be the answer if…

  • Very few people find the site at all. That is usually a content and search problem.
  • Only one or two pages are out of date. Updating them is faster and cheaper.
  • The site works, converts and is easy to edit. Keep it and improve the content.
Still unsure? Our redesign vs rebuild guide walks through improving, redesigning or rebuilding, step by step.

What we keep

What we keep, and what we rebuild

Most redesign risk hides in the details below. Each one goes into your written scope, with any redirect or migration work priced, so launch day holds no surprises.

  1. Domain and email DNS
Only the records that point to the website change. Email (MX) records are left alone, and every DNS change is listed before launch.
  2. URLs and 301 redirects
Pages with traffic, links or inquiries keep their address where possible. Any address that changes is redirected (301) to its closest new page.
  3. Content that still works
Proven wording, testimonials used with permission, photos and useful answers are carried over rather than rewritten for the sake of it.
  4. Forms and where inquiries go
Forms are rebuilt and tested so messages still reach the right inbox, then checked again after launch.
  5. Analytics and Search Console
Measurement stays connected so you can compare before and after. Give us access and we check the pages Google already knows about.
  6. Titles and descriptions
Page titles and meta descriptions that already bring visitors are kept or improved carefully, not replaced wholesale.

Leaving a site builder

Moving off a site builder

Most redesigns we quote start on a site builder. The move is straightforward if you plan it; the traps are exports and addresses.

Site builders don't export a working website. You can usually take your text, images and, sometimes, blog posts, but the design and layout stay behind. That is fine: the new site is designed from scratch anyway. What matters is listing every page address before you cancel, so each one can redirect to its new home.

Keep the builder subscription running until the new site is live and the redirects are tested. If your domain was bought through the builder, you can transfer it or simply point it at the new site; either way it stays yours.

We don't rebuild on WordPress, Shopify or Webflow. If you want to stay on one of those, a specialist in that platform is the better choice.

Redesign packages

Process

How a redesign runs

Most standard websites are ready within 5–7 business days after we receive your content, images, access and project details. Your turnaround starts once we’ve got everything needed to get cracking.

  1. Review the current site
We list the pages, forms, integrations and anything tracked in analytics, and note what is working.
  2. Agree the page plan and redirects
Which pages stay, merge or go, and where each changed address will point. You approve it before the build.
  3. Design and build
The new site is built around your content and tested on phones, tablets and desktops before it replaces the old one.
  4. Review rounds
You send consolidated feedback on preview links: one, two or three rounds depending on the package.
  5. Launch
DNS is switched, redirects are tested, forms are checked and your sitemap is ready to submit to Google Search Console.
  6. Across time zones
We work from Melbourne, so feedback you send during your day is picked up during your night. Calls, when useful, land in your afternoon.

Launch day

Redirect and URL-preservation checklist

Use it for any redesign, whoever builds it.

  • Every old address either still works or redirects (301) to its closest new page
  • No redirect chains or loops, and no important page returns a 404
  • Old image and PDF links that get traffic are redirected too
  • Each page has one title, one description and a canonical pointing to itself
  • The site is not accidentally blocked from search engines
  • Contact forms deliver to the right inbox, including the confirmation email
  • Phone numbers and email links work on mobile
  • Analytics records visits and inquiries on the new site
  • The XML sitemap lists the new pages and is submitted in Search Console
  • Email still sends and receives after the DNS change

Built in, not bolted on

Accessibility and bilingual content

A redesign is the cheapest moment to fix accessibility, because everything is being rebuilt anyway. This is general information, not legal advice.

  1. AODA for Ontario organizations
Ontario's AODA requires public sector organizations and businesses with 50 or more employees to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA on their websites. We build with accessible headings, contrast, alt text and keyboard-friendly forms, and can scope a WCAG review.
  2. French content and Bill 96
If you do business in Quebec, the Charter of the French Language, as strengthened by Bill 96, generally expects commercial website content in French. A bilingual structure with a language switch can be part of your redesign scope; the French copy comes from you or a professional translator.
  3. Privacy and consent
Rebuilt forms are a good time to check your privacy policy under PIPEDA (and Law 25 in Quebec), and to make newsletter sign-ups CASL-friendly with clear, unticked consent.

Before and after

Real redesign examples

We only show before-and-after work that is real and that the client has agreed to share.

Our published case study, Heartful Celebrations, is an Australian celebrant business: a new website plus a private workspace for the owner. You can open the live site and judge it yourself. More examples are in our work, each marked as client work or a concept.

How much does a website redesign cost?

A SIX9 redesign uses the same fixed prices as a new website: C$169, C$299 or C$449 once for up to 3, 5 or 8 pages, counted on the new site. Redirect mapping and 301 setup, moving a large blog or product list, and complex integrations are listed and priced in your written scope, separately from the package. Many Canadian agencies quote redesigns individually after a discovery call.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings through a redesign. What protects them best is keeping useful pages, redirecting every old address that changes to its closest new page, keeping titles and content that already work, and checking everything on launch day. Some movement in the first few weeks is normal.

Will my email keep working?

It should. Email runs on separate DNS records (MX records) from the website. We list every DNS change before launch and leave the email records alone, so your inbox keeps working while the website moves.

Can I stay on my current platform?

We design and build a new custom site rather than reskinning WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix or Squarespace. If staying on your current platform is a requirement, tell us in the brief; we will say plainly if we are not the right fit.

Do I have to rewrite all my content?

No. We reuse the words and images that still work, and you supply anything new. Copywriting and new photography are not included in website packages.

How long does a redesign take?

Most standard websites are ready within 5–7 business days after we receive your content, images, access and project details. Your turnaround starts once we’ve got everything needed to get cracking. The page plan and redirect list are agreed before the build starts.

Who owns the redesigned website?

Once the project is fully paid, the finished website is yours, subject to any third-party platform or licence restrictions. Your domain stays in your own name throughout.

Can the redesigned site be bilingual?

Yes. English and French pages with a language switch can be included in your written scope. We don't write French copy ourselves, so the French text should come from you or a professional translator.
