Ecommerce web design · Canada

Ecommerce web design for Canadian small businesses.

Selling online in Canada means getting GST/HST, card payments, shipping across provinces and — if you sell into Quebec — French content right before anyone sees the design. We plan those with you first, then build a custom store.

SIX9 Design is a Melbourne studio working remotely with Canadian businesses. No payment is taken with your brief.

Selling in Canada

What a Canadian store has to get right

These decisions shape the checkout and the product pages, so they come before the design. They are general information, not tax or legal advice.

  1. GST/HST, PST and QST
Rates depend on the customer's province and on your registrations. The checkout applies the rates you confirm and shows them clearly on the order summary.
  2. Payments Canadians expect
Cards through your own Stripe or Square account, which can also offer Apple Pay and Google Pay. Moneris or PayPal is quoted separately. Prices show in Canadian dollars.
  3. Shipping across a big country
Canada Post, Purolator or courier rates by region, with honest delivery times for remote areas and a clear free-shipping threshold if you offer one.
  4. French for Quebec customers
Selling into Quebec usually means French product information and a French checkout experience. We plan the language switch and page pairs up front.
  5. Privacy and consent
PIPEDA (and Quebec's Law 25 for Quebec residents) shapes what the store collects. Marketing sign-ups use express-consent wording for CASL.
  6. Returns and policies
Return, refund and shipping policies are linked from every product and at checkout, in the words you supply or approve.

Packages

Online store packages, in one place

The three store packages — what each includes, product limits and exclusions — are published on the online store page. This page covers the Canadian details that sit on top of them.

Custom online store packages

Store LaunchC$279 onceA custom online store for a small catalogue, with its own admin for products and orders. Up to 10 products. See inclusions

Only selling a handful of products or taking inquiries? A standard website package with an order-inquiry form may be enough. Stores that need custom order handling, wholesale pricing or integrations are covered by custom software and quoted after a free review.

Before you brief us

What to have ready

  • A product list with prices, variants (size, colour or flavour) and stock levels
  • Product photos, ideally on a plain background, and short descriptions
  • Your GST/HST and provincial tax registrations, confirmed with your accountant
  • Your payment processor account, or which one you prefer to open
  • Shipping zones and rates (Canada Post, Purolator or courier), and whether you ship to the US
  • Return, refund, shipping and privacy policy wording
  • French product information if you sell into Quebec
  • Your domain and who manages its DNS

Remote delivery

How a store project runs from Melbourne

Everything is agreed in writing and reviewed on preview links, so the time difference works for you: feedback you send in the afternoon is usually actioned by the next morning.

  1. Free review
You send the product list, how you sell today and what the store must do. We reply with a recommended package or a quote.
  2. Written scope
Products, taxes, payments, shipping, policies, pages and the total are written down before work starts.
  3. Build and preview
You review the store on a preview link and send consolidated feedback.
  4. Test orders
We place test orders for each tax region, payment method and shipping zone in the scope.
  5. Launch and handover
The store goes live on your domain, and you get the logins and a walkthrough of managing products and orders.

Honest fit

When another option suits you better

Choose a hosted platform if…

  • You want to add apps yourself from a large marketplace.
  • You have thousands of products and a team already trained on a platform.
  • You need multi-channel selling (marketplaces, POS) out of the box.

Choose a custom SIX9 store if…

  • You want a store designed around your products, not a theme.
  • You would rather pay once than pay a monthly platform plan to us.
  • You want the same studio for the store, the brand and the automation behind it.

How much does an ecommerce website cost for a Canadian small business?

SIX9 builds custom online stores in three published packages, starting from C$279 once, shown in Canadian dollars on this site. The package depends on the number of products and features; the details are on the online store page. Payment processing, shipping labels and any paid apps are billed by those providers.

Do you build on Shopify or WooCommerce?

No. We build custom stores rather than themes on a hosted platform. If you want to run your store inside Shopify or WooCommerce and manage it there, a platform specialist is a better fit.

Will the checkout charge GST, HST, PST or QST correctly?

Your business decides what it must collect, usually with an accountant, because rates depend on the customer's province and on your registrations. We build the checkout to apply the rates you confirm, show taxes clearly on the order summary and test each province you sell to.

Do I need a French version of my store?

If you sell to customers in Quebec, Bill 96 generally expects product information and commercial content to be available in French. A bilingual store changes the scope, so we plan it up front; you supply or approve the French text.

Which payment methods can Canadian customers use?

Store packages take card payments through your own Stripe or Square account, which can also offer wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Another processor, such as Moneris or PayPal, is scoped and quoted separately. Processing fees are paid to that provider.

Is SIX9 Design a Canadian company?

No. SIX9 Design is a studio in Melbourne, Australia. We work with Canadian businesses remotely, with written checkpoints, preview links and invoices in Canadian dollars, and we don't claim a Canadian office.

Can the store send marketing emails?

Yes, through the email tool you choose. Sign-up forms use express-consent wording so your list fits Canada's anti-spam law (CASL), and every message needs an unsubscribe link.
