Remote web design for Canadian small businesses, same price in every province

SIX9 Design is a small studio in Melbourne, Australia. We build custom websites for Canadian small businesses entirely online, at fixed prices shown in CAD. We have no Canadian office and say so upfront, so you can decide with the full picture.

No payment is taken with your brief. The scope and total are confirmed in writing first.

Who you'd be hiring

A Melbourne studio, stated upfront

Some agencies list addresses in cities where nobody works. We would rather tell you where we are.

SIX9 Design is based in Melbourne, Australia. Founder and lead designer Rifat Hasan Rafi leads the design and build, from the first reply to launch. We have no office, staff or phone line in Canada, and we don't publish Canadian city pages that pretend otherwise.

What we do have is a process built for distance: published prices, a written scope before any payment, preview links you can open on your phone, and a website you own once it is paid for.

We build custom websites for service businesses of every kind: contractors, clinics, restaurants, coaches and professional services. Each is designed from scratch, not dropped into a template.

Local or remote?

Local vs remote web designer: an honest comparison

Neither is automatically better. What matters is whether you can check the work, understand the price and get answers when you need them.

Process

How a remote build works

Most standard websites are ready within 5–7 business days after we receive your content, images, access and project details. Your turnaround starts once we’ve got everything needed to get cracking.

  1. Send your brief
Tell us what you do, who you serve, the pages you need and any sites you like. No payment is taken at this step.
  2. Get a written quote
The scope, pages, features, revision rounds, timeline and total in CAD. Nothing starts until you approve it.
  3. Supply your content
Your wording, photos, logo and account access. The turnaround starts once we have everything needed.
  4. Review preview links
Each stage is shared as a private link you can open on your phone and computer, whenever suits you.
  5. Send feedback in rounds
Collect your changes into one list per round, one to three rounds depending on the package. We work through them during your night.
  6. Launch
We connect your domain, test forms on the live site and hand everything over. Launch assistance is included.

Time zones

Working across the time difference

Melbourne runs on AEST (UTC+10), or AEDT (UTC+11) from early October to early April. That puts us most of a day ahead of Canada.

How far Melbourne is ahead, and when a live call lands in your day
Your time zoneUTC offsetMelbourne is ahead byEarly Melbourne morning is your…
Newfoundland (NT)UTC−3:30, or −2:30 in summer12½–14½ hoursLate afternoon to evening
Atlantic (AT)UTC−4, or −3 in summer13–15 hoursLate afternoon to early evening
Eastern (ET)UTC−5, or −4 in summer14–16 hoursMid to late afternoon
Central (CT)UTC−6, or −5 in summer15–17 hoursEarly to late afternoon
Mountain (MT)UTC−7, or −6 in summer16–18 hoursEarly to mid afternoon
Pacific (PT)UTC−8, or −7 in summer17–19 hoursAround midday to mid afternoon
The exact gap shifts as each country changes its clocks. Most of Saskatchewan doesn't observe daylight saving; we agree a time that works for you.

Async first. Most of the project runs in writing. You send feedback during your day; we work on it during ours, which is your evening and night. By the time you are back at your desk there is usually a reply or an updated preview waiting.

A short live-call window. When talking is quicker, we book a call for early morning in Melbourne. Because Melbourne is a day ahead, that is the afternoon or early evening of the previous calendar day for you. Calls are optional; many projects never need one.

Payment

Payment, currency and invoicing in CAD

Know exactly what you are paying, in your own currency, before you commit.

  • Package prices on this site are shown in CAD, converted from our listed prices and rounded.
  • No payment is taken with your brief.
  • The written quote confirms the scope, total, currency, any tax we charge and when payments are due.
  • Work starts only after you approve the quote.
  • Domain and hosting fees are paid by you directly to those providers, so the accounts stay in your name.

Ownership

You own the website

Once the project is fully paid, the finished website is yours, subject to any third-party platform or licence restrictions.

Your domain stays in your name. There is no monthly plan to lock you in, and if you later hire someone else, including a local designer, they can pick up where we left off.

Proof

Proof you can check yourself

Reviews on an agency's own site are easy to fake. These checks are not.

  • Read our Heartful Celebrations case study: an Australian celebrant's website and private owner workspace.
  • Browse our work. Each project is marked as client work or as a concept, so you know which is which.
  • Run a live site we have built, such as heartfulcelebrations.com.au, through Google PageSpeed Insights and see the scores for yourself.
  • Ask for a written scope before you pay anything and compare it with other quotes line by line.
  • Check that the business name, founder and location match everywhere you find us.

Honest advice

Should I hire a local web designer instead?

Sometimes, yes. Here is how to tell.

A local designer is probably the better fit if…

  • You want to meet face to face for every decision.
  • You need someone on site: photography, signage or setting up equipment.
  • You want a long-term monthly marketing or SEO retainer.
  • Your project depends on in-depth local market knowledge you can't write down.

A remote studio works well if…

  • You are comfortable giving feedback by email and preview links.
  • You want a fixed price and a written scope before paying.
  • You need a custom site, not a template on a subscription platform.
  • You would rather own the finished website than rent it monthly.

Rules to know

Language, accessibility and privacy basics

This isn't legal advice. It is a short list of things to raise early so they are built in rather than bolted on.

  1. French and bilingual content (Quebec)
If you do business in Quebec, the Charter of the French Language, as strengthened by Bill 96, generally expects commercial website content in French. A bilingual structure can be included in your scope; the French copy comes from you or a professional translator.
  2. Accessibility (AODA)
Ontario's AODA requires public sector organizations and businesses with 50 or more employees to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA on their websites. We build with accessible structure, contrast and forms, and can scope a WCAG review.
  3. Forms and personal information (PIPEDA)
Contact forms collect personal information. Say why you collect it and link a privacy policy. Quebec's Law 25 adds its own rules. We add the page; the policy text should come from you or your adviser.
  4. Email sign-ups (CASL)
Newsletter sign-ups need clear consent, usually an unticked box, and every marketing email needs an unsubscribe option. We build forms that support this.

What we don't do

When SIX9 isn't the right choice

Knowing this now saves both of us time.

  • WordPress, Shopify or Webflow builds. Every site we make is custom built.
  • Monthly SEO retainers, Google Ads or pay-per-click management.
  • Hosting or maintenance retainers.
  • On-site meetings, photography or filming anywhere in Canada.

Is it safe to hire a web designer who isn't in Canada?

It can be, if you can check who you are dealing with. SIX9 Design is a registered Australian business based in Melbourne, run by founder and lead designer Rifat Hasan Rafi. We state that we have no Canadian office, show live work you can open yourself, take no payment with your brief and confirm the scope and total in writing before any work starts.

Are your prices the same in every province?

Yes. The website packages are C$169, C$299 or C$449 once for up to 3, 5 or 8 pages, whether you are in Ontario, Alberta or Nova Scotia. Prices are converted into Canadian dollars and rounded, and the written quote confirms the final amount before work starts.

What hours can I reach you?

We work on Melbourne business hours, which fall during your evening and night. Messages you send during your day are usually answered by the time your next working day starts. When a call helps, it is booked for your afternoon, which is early morning in Melbourne.

Do we sign a contract?

Every project starts with a written scope: the pages, features, revision rounds, timeline, total and payment timing. You approve it before work begins, and our published terms apply. If anything changes, the change and its price are confirmed in writing first.

Do I pay GST or HST on your invoice?

You would be paying an overseas business, and how GST/HST applies to imported services depends on your own registration. We can't give tax advice, so ask your accountant. Your written quote shows any tax we charge before you agree to anything.

Can you build a bilingual English and French website?

Yes, a bilingual structure with separate English and French pages and a language switch can be included in your scope. We don't write French copy ourselves, so the French text should come from you or a professional translator.

How will we communicate?

Mostly by email, with preview links you can open on any device. Feedback is collected in consolidated rounds so nothing gets lost across time zones, and short video calls are available when talking is quicker.

What happens if something breaks after launch?

Launch assistance is included, and forms are checked again once the site is live. After that there is no monthly maintenance plan to buy. If something stops working, email us: if it traces back to work in your agreed scope we look at it, and any new work is quoted in writing before we start.

Who owns the website?

Once the project is fully paid, the finished website is yours, subject to any third-party platform or licence restrictions. Keep your domain registered in your own name; we never need to own it.
