Ecommerce web design · USA

Ecommerce web design for US small businesses.

Selling online in the US means getting sales tax, card payments, shipping rates and returns right before anyone sees the design. We plan those with you first, then build a custom store — no theme marketplace, no monthly platform plan from us.

SIX9 Design is a Melbourne studio working remotely with US businesses. No payment is taken with your brief.

Selling in the US

What a US store has to get right

These decisions shape the checkout and the product pages, so they come before the design. They are general information, not tax or legal advice.

  1. Sales tax by state
Where you must collect depends on your nexus in each state. The checkout applies the rates and rules you confirm, or a tax service you choose.
  2. Payments US customers expect
Cards through your own Stripe or Square account, which can also offer Apple Pay and Google Pay. PayPal is quoted separately. Prices show in US dollars.
  3. Shipping rates that hold up
USPS, UPS or FedEx rates by zone, realistic delivery estimates and a free-shipping threshold only if your margins allow it.
  4. Accessible checkout
Labeled fields, keyboard access and readable contrast help every customer and reduce ADA risk. See the ADA guide for the basics.
  5. Privacy and email
A privacy policy that matches what you collect, state rules such as California's where they apply, and CAN-SPAM basics for order and marketing email.
  6. Returns and policies
Return, refund and shipping policies are linked from every product and at checkout, in the words you supply or approve.

Packages

Online store packages, in one place

The three store packages — what each includes, product limits and exclusions — are published on the online store page. This page covers the US details that sit on top of them.

Custom online store packages

Only selling a handful of products or taking inquiries? A standard website package with an order-inquiry form may be enough. Stores that need custom order handling, wholesale pricing or integrations are covered by custom software and quoted after a free review.

Before you brief us

What to have ready

  • A product list with prices, variants (size, color or flavor) and stock levels
  • Product photos, ideally on a plain background, and short descriptions
  • The states where you collect sales tax, confirmed with your accountant
  • Your payment processor account, or which one you prefer to open
  • Shipping zones and rates (USPS, UPS or FedEx), and whether you ship internationally
  • Return, refund, shipping and privacy policy wording
  • Any accessibility requirements your customers or partners have raised
  • Your domain and who manages its DNS

Remote delivery

How a store project runs from Melbourne

Everything is agreed in writing and reviewed on preview links, so the time difference works for you: feedback you send in the afternoon is usually actioned by the next morning.

  1. Free review
You send the product list, how you sell today and what the store must do. We reply with a recommended package or a quote.
  2. Written scope
Products, taxes, payments, shipping, policies, pages and the total are written down before work starts.
  3. Build and preview
You review the store on a preview link and send consolidated feedback.
  4. Test orders
We place test orders for each tax region, payment method and shipping zone in the scope.
  5. Launch and handover
The store goes live on your domain, and you get the logins and a walkthrough of managing products and orders.

Honest fit

When another option suits you better

Choose a hosted platform if…

  • You want to add apps yourself from a large marketplace.
  • You have thousands of products and a team already trained on a platform.
  • You need multi-channel selling (marketplaces, POS) out of the box.

Choose a custom SIX9 store if…

  • You want a store designed around your products, not a theme.
  • You would rather pay once than pay a monthly platform plan to us.
  • You want the same studio for the store, the brand and the automation behind it.

How much does an ecommerce website cost for a US small business?

SIX9 builds custom online stores in three published packages, starting from US$279 once, shown in US dollars on this site. The package depends on the number of products and features; the details are on the online store page. Payment processing, shipping labels and any paid apps are billed by those providers.

Do you build on Shopify or WooCommerce?

No. We build custom stores rather than themes on a hosted platform. If you want to run your store inside Shopify or WooCommerce and manage it there, a platform specialist is a better fit.

Will my store collect the right sales tax?

Your business decides where it must collect sales tax, usually with an accountant, because the rules depend on the states where you have nexus. We build the checkout to apply the rates and rules you give us, or to use a tax service you choose, and we test it before launch.

Which payment methods can customers use?

Store packages take card payments through your own Stripe or Square account, which can also offer wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay. Another processor, such as PayPal, is scoped and quoted separately. Processing fees are paid to that provider.

Is SIX9 Design a US company?

No. SIX9 Design is a studio in Melbourne, Australia. We work with US businesses remotely, with written checkpoints, preview links and invoices in US dollars, and we don't claim a US office.

Do you handle product photos and descriptions?

You supply product photos, descriptions and prices. We set up the catalog structure and can load an agreed number of products as part of the package. Product photography and copywriting are not included.

Does the store need to be accessible?

Accessible checkouts help every customer and reduce legal risk under the ADA. We design and test for keyboard use, labeled fields and readable contrast. For a formal audit, use an accessibility specialist; our ADA guide explains the basics.
